An early springtime drive through the Croatan Forest of Eastern North Carolina had little to offer in the variety of flowering species; an exception to this disappointment was the sighting of a prostrate patch of the creeping sub-shrub called pixie moss. I made this photo in early March of 1969.
The majestic pine barrens harbored this little beauty well within sight of several roadside stretches.
