On top of Buffalo Mountain in Floyd County, Virginia, the Nodding Onion (Allium cernuum) is a robust and colorful plant. The same species here in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, is a somewhat delicate plant with white and pale-green colors. This specimen was found in a sandy lowland site, associated with the White Oak Mountain Triassic soils situated near Markham in the central-eastern part of the county.
My photo was dated July, 1979.
