As I scanned this color slide, I noticed that the pinned specimen was labeled July, 1974, Brunswick County, North Carolina. On that occasion our expedition discovered several conspicuous Colona Moths clinging to various weedy plants in a sandy ditch.
Johnny Westbrook, our bird and insect expert, recognized this moth as a somewhat rare species not found in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. This thought struck a loud note of enthusiasm amongst onboard collectors. A new species added to local collections was always looked upon with satisfactory awe.
